Women Soldiers in Conflict: Difficult Testimonies from the Occupied Territories (New Generations)
Kraft Center for Jewish Life

This is a New Generations event for NIF supporters in their 20s, 30s and early 40s. If you're looking for our multi-generational event on Feb 18th, please click here.

Featuring Dana Golan, Executive Director of Breaking the Silence.

Dana Golan, executive director of Breaking the Silence (BTS) and former lieutenant Education Corps officer will discuss a new set of testimonies from female Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers who served in the Occupied Palestinian Territories from the start of the second Intifada to the present. These difficult testimonies involve human rights abuses that women soldiers both participated in and were witness to while protecting Israel’s security.

Breaking the Silence was founded in June 2004 by recently discharged IDF soldiers.  The organization was established on the conviction that every Israeli citizen must know what is being done in his/her name in the Occupied Territories, and with a commitment to the correlative duty of soldiers to inform the public and decision makers about the reality that they witnessed and in which they actively participated.

Dana Golan is a veteran lieutenant who served as an education officer at the beginning of the second Intifada.  During her two and a half years in the Israeli military she served in several locations, including the West Bank city of Hebron.
